The executive director of the Export and Investment Center of the Dominican Republic (ProDominicana), Biviana Riveiro Disla, highlighted that, despite the global economic slowdown, the country could exceed $4 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) this year. ).

“In 2022 we broke a historical record that implied economic growth of more than 25%, and in the first half of 2023, foreign investment in our country reached 2.15 billion dollars, which could exceed the figure of the 4,000 million dollars,” Riveiro revealed.

She pointed out that the Dominican Republic has become the main recipient of foreign investments from Central America and the Caribbean, surpassing Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and other countries in the region, in addition to positioning itself as a logistics hub due to its high connectivity.

When interviewed on a television program, the official stated that the investments come from Spain, the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil and other countries in the world.

“This investment is distributed in different sectors of the national economy, such as: tourism, renewable energy, real estate, free zones, transportation, telecommunications and cinema,” said Riveiro, adding that the multinational companies that set up shop in the country They generate jobs and development, in addition to transmitting technological knowledge, which allows ecosystems of entrepreneurs to emerge.

Dominican products exported abroad

Riveiro stated that among the most exported Dominican products are gold, tobacco, medical devices, services, cocoa, bananas, mango, among others. The main markets where they enter are: the United States, China, India, Haiti, Puerto Rico, Spain and Costa Rica.

“The Dominican Republic has direct access to 28 of the 33 Caribbean islands and we are exporting, at the service level, our engineers who work in the construction sector, who are the main hotel builders in Jamaica and Anguilla,” she stressed.
